Redskins Reportedly Pursued Amari Cooper in Bizarre Twist That Could've Cost Cowboys Big Time

The Dallas Cowboys took a risk by allowing wide receiver Amari Cooper to hit free agency. Luckily for Dallas he is staying with the team on a $100 million deal.
However, ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed that the Washington Redskins came in late and tried to sign Cooper. That happening would have been a total disaster for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.

This is a detail that will fade away with time. However, it shows the risks taken by allowing a player to hit the open market. Teams can throw in extra money to pry players away and a deal that was once seen as a sure thing can vanish in an instant.
Skins owner Dan Snyder, for one, is well-know around the NFL for his petty moves. This would've been an all-timer.
Cowboys WR Amari Cooper turned down “significantly” more money from Redskins to remain in Dallas with hopes to win Super Bowl here, source said tonight. Dallas is where he wanted to be. He’s coming back on a five-year, $100 million contract.

Cooper wanting to stay in Dallas saved the team here. Other players may have taken the money Washington was offering. This should serve as a warning to Jones as he tries to build another Super Bowl-contending team.
