Redskins RB Derrius Guice Expected to Be Fully Healthy for Training Camp
By Charles Nason
After being selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, former LSU running back Derrius Guice suffered a season-ending knee injury before even having a chance to make his pro debut. .One year later, the Redskins are now looking to bring him back into the mix-- and he looks to be closing in on full health as offseason workouts arrive.
Head coach Jay Gruden has stated that Guice has made tremendous progress with his injury. Gruden also touched on the fact that Guice's return is dependent on him being in good shape along with fully recovering his knee.
If Guice returns to the Redskins lineup this season, he joins a crowded backfield. With fellow backs Adrian Peterson, Samaje Perine, Chris Thompson, and Bryce Love all gunning for reps, Guice has plenty of work to do outside of simply rehabbing his torn ACL.
Guice had success at LSU, including multiple 1,000-yard seasons. His stock dropped in the 2018 draft due to perceptions of immaturity and that he would be "high-maintence" for teams, but the Redskins running back has since shaken off these perceptions and has focused instead on his recovery and return to the gridiron.
With reports coming from the team that Guice is nearing a proper return, we may have a chance to see him feature in preseason.
