Redskins' Ryan Kerrigan to Miss First Game of NFL Career Due to Concussion
By Sean Facey
Concussions have claimed the health of yet another stellar NFL player, and this time, the affliction marks the end of an unprecedented streak.
Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan is set to miss his first NFL game ever on Sunday due to a concussion. The injury, which led to his removal from a Week 12 game against the Lions, snaps a streak of 139 consecutive games started by him since he was drafted in 2011.
It's yet another hitch in what has been an absolutely brutal season for the Redskins.
A four-time Pro Bowler, Kerrigan has been a model of consistency throughout his career. In addition to starting every game prior to this Week 13 showdown against the Carolina Panthers, he had logged 7.5 or more sacks from 2011 to 2018. He has 4.5 this year.
It just goes to show that even the best of the league's players can't avoid concussions. They're borderline inevitable.
Hopefully this is nothing more than a one-time issue for him and it doesn't become a recurring problem. Players of his durability are a rare breed in the modern NFL, and it would be a shame to see things start to fall apart for him.
