The Washington Redskins finally pulled the trigger on Monday morning and announced the firing of head coach Jay Gruden after an 0-5 start to the 2019 season.

The move was expected, even though we're a bit surprised it took this long for owner Dan Snyder and GM Bruce Allen to come to their senses.

As it pertains to the manner in which they handled Gruden's firing, however, they didn't let us down. Snyder and Allen actually asked the 52-year-old head coach to report to the Redskins facility at 5 a.m. this morning to can him.

There's two ways to look at this. Did Washington's braintrust respect Gruden enough to not announce termination via a lengthy phone call and rather do it in person? Or did they want to twist the knife by making him drive up to the facility thinking he still had a job only to disclose his sacking?

If you ask us, the answer is definitely the latter, especially when you consider Snyder's track record of pettiness AND Gruden's pitiful postgame quote following the defeat to the Patriots on Sunday.

“If the key works Monday I'll keep working," Gruden said.

Oh, it worked, Gruden...it just doesn't anymore.

That's a downright savage way for Snyder to fire the longest-tenured head coach in the 20 years that he has owned the Redskins. Talk about burning bridges.
