In an attempt to end the decades-long cycle of mediocrity that the franchise has been stuck in, Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder is reportedly set to go big game hunting to find a replacement for the deposed Jay Gruden.

There have been rumblings that 2019 could be the last year in Pittsburgh for Mike Tomlin, currently in charge of a 1-4 Steelers team. If Tomlin does indeed get the axe, Snyder and the Redskins are considering going after him, notes Jason La Canfora.

The 47-year-old Tomlin has been in charge since 2007, and has a standout 142-70 record (good for a winning percentage of .642) at the helm in Pittsburgh. Mixed in there are six division titles, two AFC championship victories, and one Super Bowl win. He'd certainly be the best hire the Redskins have made since Snyder took over the franchise.

Tomlin would be an ace hire, albeit for a job that is as undesirable as there is in the league today. Sources close to Tomlin have suggested that he has no interest in the Washington job, however, even if he gets canned in Pittsburgh.

If the likes of Joe Gibbs and Steve Spurrier and Mike Shanahan struggled to win games under the authoritarian reign of Snyder, the odds will be stacked against a guy like Tomlin in Washignton despite all the success he's had over the years. But that won't stop the man in charge from giving it his best shot.
