Redskins Should Bench Case Keenum and Start Dwayne Haskins vs Daniel Jones and the Giants in Week 4
By Karl Rasmussen
The Washington Redskins don't seem likely to win many games in 2019, especially with Case Keenum under center. While he was largely expected to be a bridge quarterback, taking on the starting role while Alex Smith is on the mend and Dwayne Haskins develops, the Skins may be better suited to move on from the Keenum experiment sooner rather than later.
Despite not throwing a pick through the first two weeks of the season, Keenum struggled mightily against the Bears in Week 3, getting intercepted twice in the first half. Well, with optimism at an all-time low in Washington, and the youth movement taking over the NFL, perhaps it's time to install Haskins under center.
And what better time to put the former Ohio State product in for his first start than against Daniel Jones and the New York Giants, the quarterback taken before Haskins in the 2019 draft.
The stage would be set for a rookie matchup of the ages. Haskins, who many projected to land with the Giants, would have a shot to prove that he should have heard his name called at pick No. 6, while Jones will try to continue his prolific introduction to life as an NFL starter.
While the Redskins have made clear their desire to exercise patience with Haskins, their fan base's patience may be running thin, which could apply pressure on the front office to implement some changes at quarterback.
There would be nothing more exciting for Redskins fans than to have Haskins debut against Jones and the Giants, and it could truly make for one of the great matchups and storylines of the NFL season.
Jay Gruden's seat is getting warmer with each passing loss, and after a brutal first half against Chicago, the temperature under his backside may be too hot to keep Haskins riding the pine any longer.
