VIDEO: Referee Accidentally Takes Down Air Force Fullback Taven Birdow and Denies Potential TD Run
By Karl Rasmussen
Air Force was running through Washington State's defense in the first half, picking up 179 yards on the ground by halftime. They picked up more than five yards per carry, and it seemed like no one could stop their rushing attack. Well, that is except for one referee, who didn't make the stop with his whistle. Fullback Taven Birdow broke free for what looked like a possible touchdown run, but the official got in the way and Birdow crashed into him and went down at the three-yard line.
The Cougars lucked out with that one, as their defense was simply unable to drag the 6-1, 220-pounder to the floor. It's honestly a surprise he didn't just truck right through the referee.
Fortunately, he was still able to celebrate as he subsequently scored a rushing touchdown from the three-yard line.
Nothing quite like scoring in the Cheez-it Bowl.
