Reggie Bush Suggests Packers Should Make Shock Move and Trade Aaron Rodgers to the Patriots

Aaron Rodgers learned that time is a flat circle Thursday night when the Green Bay Packers drafted quarterback Jordan Love in the first round. The cycle that eventually pushed Brett Favre out of Green Bay seems to be repeating itself, and Rodgers' future with the team is now in at least some question.

The selection of Love instantly ignited conspiracy theories about potential Rodgers trades. The Packers have not made Rodgers available, to be clear, but former NFL player and current analyst Reggie Bush believes the Green Bay legend could end up with the New England Patriots via trade.

Yes, he went there.

Any talk of a Rodgers trade is purely hypothetical at this point. But we have all seen this same process before with Favre and Love was clearly taken as the quarterback of the future in Green Bay. If that wasn't the plan, the team would not have used a first-round pick on him.

Such a trade would likely have to wait until 2021 at the earliest. The Patriots have around $2 million in cap space, and Rodgers is a $21.64 million cap hit in 2020. That jumps up to over $36 million in 2021 when the Patriots have the necessary cap space to add him.

Bill Belichick always seems to have a master plan and the Packers drafting Love may have changed those plans. Adding Rodgers, who is under contract through 2023, could give Belichick a chance to win another Super Bowl or two before ultimately retiring. That would be quite the way to restock the team after moving on from Tom Brady, wouldn't it?
