VIDEO: Remembering When Cam Newton Shied Away From a Loose Fumble in Super Bowl 50

Cam Newton is now a free agent after being released by the Carolina Panthers on Tuesdsay. Newton took the team to Super Bowl 50 after a 15-1 regular season record in 2015. Yet he is often remembered for one bad play in that Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos, when he fumbled down a single score, and didn't exactly make an effort to recover the ball.
This play may have been forgotten if the Panthers had won. However, it came when the team trailed 16-10 late in the fourth quarter. Newton was stripped and appeared to have a path to jump on the ball. He started toward the pigskin, only to stop in his tracks and watch the play continue, letting DeMarcus Ware knock the ball asunder. A quick Twitter search brings up countless mentions of that one fumble over four years later.
Looks like the Panthers never forgave Cam Newton for not going after that fumble in the Super Bowl.

Newton should have made a better attempt to recover the ball. However, this one play should not define his entire tenure, in which he made three Pro Bowls and led the Panthers to the Super Bowl in an All-Pro season.
