Former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jim Everett has one of the more underrated careers of the late 1980s and early 1990s, as he threw for over 34,000 yards and 203 touchdowns in his pro career. That isn't what most remember him for, unfortunately. In 1994, Everett went on ESPN2 to be interviewed by Jim Rome. On TV and on the radio, Rome repeatedly called Everett "Chris," after the female tennis player Chris Evert, in an effort to mock Jim for how bad he was during his last year in LA. When Rome continued to mock Everett, not heeding the QB's angry warnings, the former Purdue star threw a table aside and leapt at Rome, knocking him off the stage and landing some blows.

26 years ago to the day, a starting NFL quarterback who was just traded to a new team (the New Orleans Saints) a few weeks earlier attacked a reporter on live television. To answer your question, no, this was not staged.

Imagine a quarterback of Derek Carr's caliber literally attacking someone like Max Kellerman live on ESPN. That's how unusual this was.

Everett has since put this incident in the past, and Rome is still doing his thing with CBS. However, despite both of their successful careers, the names Rome and Everett will forever be linked to one of the most unintentionally funny moments in ESPN history.
