Remembering the Absolute Legend Who Beat Michael Jordan at Quarters and Shrugged in His Face
By Mark Powell

John Michael Wozniak has gone viral in ways he would've scoffed at 20 years ago.
'The Last Dance' has provided us with a look back at Michael Jordan's glory days at a time where we desperately need a distraction. In Episodes 5 and 6 on Sunday night, Wozniak became a meme for defeating MJ in a game of quarters, and reacting with MJ's all-but-patented shrug.
Sure, Wozniak beat Jordan in a game of his choosing, which surely drove the GOAT up a wall. Yet he was so much more than that.
"He was his own brand before he even met Michael."

Wozniak was a former Chicago narcotics officer, and would go on to work security for Jordan for over 20 years. For decades, he hung in the background ensuring the safety of game's greatest star, but on Sunday, he reached an unexpected level of fame thanks to The Last Dance Producers.
Wozniak passed away in January of this year, but his son relived some of his father's greatest memories from working with Jordan, including the infamous game of quarters, and a previous occasion when his dad defeated MJ in pool.

“My dad beat him at pool and he came home early from like a Christmas party,” he told the Athletic. “I’m like, ‘What happened?’ He’s like, ‘Ah, I beat Michael at pool and Michael didn’t like it, so …’”
Jordan rarely lost at his greatest heights, but considering his love for gambling, it's not surprising he found one game he wasn't elite at. Wozniak took advantage, and for that we're thankful.
