VIDEO: Remembering the Saints Winning Their First-Ever Super Bowl 10 Years Ago Today
By Michael Luciano

For their first few decades of existence, the New Orleans Saints were the most pitiful excuse for a football team in the league, piling up double-digit losing seasons without even breaking a sweat. All of that changed when Sean Payton and Drew Brees came to town, and their dynamic offense finally gave a passionate fanbase their first Super Bowl title 10 years ago today. Brees and the Saints took down Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 at Super Bowl XLIV in Miami.

With one Tracy Porter pick-six, decades of frustration washed away.
Brees completed 32-of-39 passes for 288 yards and a touchdown, while Marques Colston led the team with 83 receiving yards. Running back Pierre Thomas had 85 total yards and a touchdown, and both he and Jeremy Shockey both caught touchdowns in the upset win.

It was all thanks to Tracy Porter's game-winning pick 6, which was named the greatest moment in Saints history: https://t.co/FvXF4GULeY pic.twitter.com/7E8FKkTMvo
The Saints haven't gotten to a Super Bowl since, but the stink of the franchise's early years was totally erased when Porter trotted into the end zone and the Saints won their first championship. That win helped set them up for a record-setting decade of football in the 2010s.
