Remembering Travis Wood's Epic Night for Cubs in NLDS Against Giants 3 Years Ago Today
By Ryan Giglio
The Chicago Cubs missed the playoffs this season in disappointing fashion. While they currently can't participate in meaningful games, nothing is stopping them from reminiscing of better, historic times.
Three years ago, the team won its first World Series in almost 11 decades. But history was made along the way, especially in their NLDS showdown against the Giants.
In Game 2 of the series, Travis Wood became the first relief pitcher to hit a postseason home run since Rosy Ryan 1924 exactly three years ago today.
Wood replaced starter Kyle Hendricks in the fourth inning and tossed 1.1 scoreless innings and picked up the win.
The lefty was one of the best hitting pitchers in the league too. Wood hit .185/.208/.329 with 11 home runs and 37 RBI in his eight-year career.
While many 2016 Cubs are still on the roster, Wood has not pitched in the majors since the 2017 season. However, he'll always be remembered as a member of the curse-breaking team that will live on forever.
