REPORT: Giants and Astros 'Engaged' in Talks About Madison Bumgarner
By Parker White
The San Francisco Giants have made a run in the National League and are only 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, leading to the belief they won't be sellers at the trade deadline and Madison Bumgarner will finish out the season in the Bay Area.
Well, maybe they've changed course, as Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports has reported the Giants and Houston Astros are "engaged" in talks surrounding Bumgarner, though to what extent, we do not know.
Brown makes sure to note that he isn't sure about how far along they might be in their discussions regarding the postseason legend. Whether the talks are far along or not, it's shocking that they are even taking place considering the belief the Giants are going for a postseason berth in manager Bruce Bochy's final season.
Bumgarner has really stepped up his game in the month of July, as he owns a 2.70 ERA over his last five starts, including 27 strikeouts over 30 innings of work.
His addition to the Astros rotation would be a huge one, as they already have Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole at the top. It would surely make them the AL favorite if they could pull this off.
