REPORT: Raiders Rostering 3 QBs in a Surprise Twist
By Jerry Trotta
Leave it to Jon Gruden to provide football fans with a little bit of a twist on the NFL's annual day of roster cuts.
After holding a training camp and preseason-long backup quarterback battle, as chronicled by HBO's "Hard Knocks," the Oakland Raiders are reportedly opting to roster three quarterbacks.
Per insider Ian Rapoport, vet Mike Glennon will serve as the backup to Derek Carr. Additionally, Gruden remains determined to "resurrect" the career of Bills castaway Nathan Peterman, so he's keeping him too.
With Carr being under center for just one series all preseason, both Glennon and Peterman were awarded the time to prove their worth.
Glennon threw for 491 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while completing 67.2 percent of his passes. Peterman, on the other hand, logged 475 yards through the air to go with three scores and zero picks, while completing 71.4 percent of his throws.
Barring an unprecedented catastrophe, like injuries to Carr and Glennon, it seems likely that Peterman will NOT suit up for Oakland in 2019. However, the fact that he's still on an NFL roster after his horrific stint in Buffalo -- during which he compiled three touchdowns compared to 13 INTs -- is nothing short of a miracle.
Anything is possible, ladies and gents.
