Right now is the worst time to say anything controversial about the coronavirus. Thousands of people are dying daily, life is changing drastically every day across the globe, and people are terrified of what looks to be one of the worst pandemics in the past few hundred years.

In an article released on Thursday by The Athletic about how the Boston Red Sox are handling the MLB shutdown, Chad Jennings claimed that an anonymous Red Sox player called the coronavirus a hoax, as the rest of the team readied to halt all their activities.

According to Jennings, it was a player being interviewed by another journalist saying this, so depending on whether the player wants their identity revealed, we could know very soon what Red Sox player believes the coronavirus isn't real.

At this point, it is somewhat ridiculous to publicly claim the coronavirus isn't real. Only thinking about the virus' impact on the sports world, we've seen MLB suspended, the NBA suspended, the NHL suspended, the Masters postponed, and March Madness completely cancelled. Sports have been put to a complete halt. That's only scratching the surface. People are dying all over the world. Proclaiming that this virus that is claiming lives is a hoax is just asking for people to be angry.

Americans, whether they be professional athletes or blue collar workers, should be uniting right now. A sensitive time such as this is the wrong time to make a bold statement such as that.
