Reports Suggest Vikings Will Not Be Trading Stefon Diggs Despite Speculation
By Scott Rogust
Once Minnesota Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs missed practice Wednesday due to a non-injury related reason, many began speculating that he wanted off the team. New England Patriots fans, of course, believed that Diggs would become Antonio Brown's replacement, based off his missed practice and a vague tweet days earlier.
But Patriots insider Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston is telling those individuals to slow their roll. According to his sources, the Vikings have no intention of trading Diggs this season.
With the Vikings offense stagnant under quarterback Kirk Cousins, Diggs is not reaching the heights he's shown at the start of his career. Through four games this season, Diggs has been targeted just 19 times by Cousins, in which he's recorded 13 catches for 209 yards and one touchdown.
As Curran notes in his article, despite being 2-2 on the year, the Vikings are very much in the thick of the playoff race. Not to mention, the team just signed Diggs to a five-year, $72 million contract, $40 million of which is guaranteed.
As for the Patriots, they're going to be players for a wide receiver leading up to the trade deadline. But Diggs can be crossed off the list -- at least for now.
