Rich Eisen Has Wildly Hyperbolic Take About Daniel Jones' Giants Debut
By Scott Rogust
New York (and the entire nation) is abuzz following Daniel Jones' first NFL start for the Giants. Taking over for 16-year veteran Eli Manning, Jones proved his numerous doubters wrong for at least one week, orchestrating a 32-31 comeback win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
With everyone struggling to produce the right words and description of the sixth overall pick's impressive debut, NFL Network's Rich Eisen had a bit of a hyperbolic take, saying a mid-September win over Jameis Winston was "the most exciting New York sports moments in years."
It certainly was one that brought genuine giddiness and enthusiasm out of Giants fans for the first time in years. Yet, to throw it up there with the New York Yankees' comeback in the 2017 ALDS (and Wild Card Game, and ALCS...), the New York Mets' run to the 2015 World Series, and the New York Rangers' journey to the 2014 Stanley Cup Final is a bit of a reach.
But, still, it was one exciting game. One, singular, exciting game.
When Jones was selected by the Giants in April, the fan base and media revolted, at the rookie's expense. After a good preseason, the former Duke signal caller had turned some of his critics, but many echoed, "Let's see how he does in the regular season."
Well, in Week 3, Jones completed 23-of-36 pass attempts for 336 yards and four total touchdowns, one of them being the game-winning scramble late in the fourth quarter. And just like that, the Giants offense thrived and did enough to make up for their poor defensive performance.
Daniel Jones is breathing newfound life into the New York Giants, and it will be fun to see how it continues throughout the 2019 season.
