Rob Gronkowski Proves Every Take About Bill Belichick and Cam Newton Meshing is Wrong
By Michael Luciano
The New England Patriots are in need of a quarterback, and Cam Newton is in need of a job. The two haven't discussed a contract, however, and many believe that is because Newton's interests outside of football would get in the way of him being a successful leader under Bill Belichick.
This theory, floated in part by former Kansas City Chiefs GM and Patriots executive Scott Pioli, falls apart when one looks at former Patriots superstar tight end Rob Gronkowski.
Gronkowski was named WWE's 24/7 champion at Wrestlemania 36, as he appears to have found his preferred career choice post-football.
Gronkowski was as goofy and eccentric a player as there was in the league when he played, but Belichick managed to reign him in. He wasn't just good for Belichick. He was legendarily great.
Newton might have interests outside of football, but they are nothing compared to what Gronkowski had going on, and Belichick managed to make his partnership with the beefy tight end work wonders. Would Bill really go into a season with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer because Cam might...have some entertainment interests?
If Patriots sycophants want to justify passing on Cam by saying they don't want to spend the money he is asking for on a new quarterback, or asserting that his questionable accuracy isn't a great fit in their offense, that's fair enough.
Unfortunately, the idea that Newton is too focused on outside interests to be a successful quarterback for Belichick has been completely disproven, as Gronkowski was able to balance the football and entertainment aspects of his life during his time in New England with aplomb.
