Rob Pelinka's Statement on Frank Vogel Hiring is Delusional and Clueless
By Jerry Trotta
For some reason that we are still trying to fathom, the Los Angeles Lakers refused to give Tyronn Lue the five-year deal he was reportedly seeking. Instead, Rob Pelinka and Co. elected to submit the former Cavaliers boss and NBA champion merely a three-year offer; Lue proceeded to withdraw his name from consideration for the head coaching job.
Since then, the Lakers hired former Pacers and Magic head coach Frank Vogel, but the move has yet to win over the hearts of LA's ring-starved fan base.
We hate to beat a dead horse, but Pelinka did anything but help his case with recent, mind-numbing comments he made in an attempt to justify Vogel's appointment.
"Coach Vogel has a proven track record of success in the NBA Playoffs," said the Lakers GM. "And he reflects the core qualities we were looking for in a head coach, including detailed game preparation, extreme hard work, and holding players accountable to the highest basketball standards."
Seriously, Rob? That "proven track record" of postseason success has correlated to a 31-30 overall record and advancing only as far as the conference finals.
Let's get this straight: the championship-or-bust dynamo that is LeBron James is supposed to trust a man who has yet to appear in an NBA Finals and repeatedly couldn't get past the King himself in the Eastern Conference to lead him to the promised land?
Got it.
Just embarrassing. We can't handle much more incompetence from this franchise. Our brains are genuinely fatigued.
