Robinson Cano is Being Out-Hit as a Met by Roberto Alomar
By Jerry Trotta
To say that Robinson Cano hasn't lived up to New York Mets' fans expectations wouldn't even begin to describe the failed offseason under agent-turned-General Manager, Brodie Van Wagenen.
Unfortunately for those in Queens, this current predicament is all too similar to the 2002 offseason acquisition of "washed up" All-Star Roberto Alomar, who dropped off astronomically from his final year with Cleveland compared to his first in Flushing.
And what makes this uncanny parallel all the more agonizing for Mets fans, however, is that Alomar's numbers through his first 54 games for the Amazins, though alarmingly distasteful, were somehow better than Cano's through his first 54 appearances for the Mets.
Yikes. Roberto literally has Robbie beat in virtually every statistical category.
That screeching sound you hear is the entirety of the Metropolitan fan base effortlessly breaking the sound barrier upon reading that tweet.
On top of it all, the Metsies are out here re-defining the term insanity (doing the same things over and over expecting different results) by inserting Cano in the three-hole AGAIN for Tuesday's clash against the Phillies.
This is all despite the fact that he was the only non-pitcher from Monday's 13-7 slugfest against Philly to not record a hit...in a game that tallied 34 base knocks!
Van Wagenen and Co. better hope that Cano can formulate a somewhat productive second half of the season. If not, that trade with Seattle will look even more disastrous and the Alomar comparisons will become far too prevalent.
