Rockets Hire Experienced Coach Elston Turner to Become Lead Assistant
The NBA offseason means more than just player movement. Organizations try to come together to build complete and successfully functioning systems that include everyone from team employees to front office personnel. That means that it's pretty likely to see coaching changes for teams throughout the league right about now.
The latest of those changes comes with the addition of Elston Turner, who was brought on board as the lead assistant on the Houston Rockets staff. Turner is joining Houston with over two decades of NBA coaching experience which includes history with the Rockets.
Turner will join Mike D'Antoni's staff as the replacement for Jeff Bzdelik. His main responsibility with the team will remain on the defensive side of the ball, where he has a strong track record and the Rockets have been struggling.
His hire comes amid upheaval in Houston after parting ways with much of the previous coaching staff. Head coach D'Antoni is still looking to negotiate a contract extension as he heads into the final year of his contract next season.
Hopefully the addition of Turner will bring growth and stability to a Rockets team that so desperately wants to reach the NBA Finals.
