Rockets Owner Reveals Details of Contract Extension Talks With Mike D'Antoni

The Houston Rockets ended their season the same way they did last year -- with a series loss to the Golden State Warriors.
After the season, the Rockets and their head coach Mike D'Antoni began negotiations on a contract extension, but those talks fell apart on Thursday.
In wake of those reports, Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta revealed the details of the negotiations with D'Antoni.
The contract extension for D'Antoni was a one-year offer that would have paid him $5 million. The amount is a bit higher than what he's currently making, but still less than what other veteran coaches earn in today's NBA.
D'Antoni would also have gotten a $1 million bonus for each playoff round that the Rockets won that season. For a coach of D'Antoni's caliber, given his team has proven to be a powerhouse in the stacked Western Conference, there's certainly an argument to be made that he deserves more.
With Houston possibly retooling based on buzz from around the league on Wednesday, it could open up the door for a potential coaching staff change, especially if there are serious personnel moves. That could perhaps explain why D'Antoni reportedly ended the negotiations.
