Rockets Reportedly Interested in Tyronn Lue as Assistant Coach
By Brian Cass
Former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue is still looking for employment after his deal with the Los Angeles Lakers fell through.
While his focus remains on finding a head coaching job, some teams have reached out to Lue for assistant coaching roles. The Houston Rockets are reportedly one of those teams.
The Rockets have a depleted coaching staff with assistant coaches Jeff Bzedlik, Mitch Vanya and Roy Rogers all leaving the team this offseason.
Lue, who's seen as one of the best coaching candidates still available, would be a great addition to this Rockets team. He has an abundance of playoff experience, making it to the Finals three straight seasons with the Cavs from 2015-2017, bringing a home a title in the process. He also bolsters a 128-83 record during his time in Cleveland.
Some chalk his success in Cleveland up to simply having the best player in the world with LeBron James, but it takes more than just that to reach three straight NBA Finals and consistently be one of the best teams in the East.
The fact that LeBron urged the Lakers front office to bring Lue in as their head coach speaks to the kind of respect James has for his former coach.
We'll have to wait and see what Lue ends up doing this offseason. He deserves a head coaching position, but it appears he's only being pursued for assistant coaching roles at this time.
