Rockets Reportedly Sign Former No. 1 Pick Bust Anthony Bennett for Some Reason
By Brian Cass
After the Rockets pulled off the blockbuster trade to send Chris Paul to Oklahoma City for star point guard Russell Westbrook and then signing Tyson Chandler, it seemed like Houston was done making moves this offseason.
But out of the blue, Shams Charania is reporting that Houston has agreed to a non-guaranteed contract with former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett.
Bennett has been stamped with the "bust" label since entering the league, and rightfully so. During his four-year career, Bennett has played for four different organizations and has never averaged more than six points per game.
Along with Bennett doing little to nothing during his lack luster career, the Rockets already have a few players on their roster who are better options than Bennett. From starters Clint Capella and PJ Tucker to backups Chandler and Kenneth Faried, there just doesn't seem to be enough minutes for Bennett to see any substantial playing time.
The only way Bennett will see the court is if one of their backups is terribly under-performing or gets hurt. But regardless, this signing doesn't make much sense for the Rockets at this juncture.
Expect Bennett to get plenty of playing time...in the G League.
