Rockies and Star Shortstop Trevor Story Reportedly Finalizing 2-Year Deal to Avoid Arbitration

The Colorado Rockies have been in the news lately due to a fractured relationship with star player Nolan Arenado.
While trade talks regarding the star third baseman have cooled down -- which is good news for Rockies fans -- the team has also locked down another key piece for a couple of years.
Star shortstop Trevor Story and the Rockies have avoided arbitration, coming to terms on a two-year, $27.5 million deal.
Shortstop Trevor Story and the Colorado Rockies are in agreement on a two-year, $27.5 million contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. It buys out the final two years of arbitration for Story, who will reach free agency at 29 as part of the vaunted Class of 2021-22.

The new contract will buy out the remaining years of arbitration Story was eligible for, and he will hit free agency before the age of 30 in 2022. The two-time All-Star posted a 6.4 WAR in 2019 and had 35 home runs in his fourth year in the majors.
SS Trevor Story and the Rockies are nearing a multi-year deal, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. The deal could be done within the next 24 hours, though it would still be pending physical. Story ($11.5M) and the Rockies ($10.75M) were $750K apart in salary arbitration figures.

Story was not going anywhere this offseason, but the new deal removes the ugly process of arbitration from the relationship and should make both sides happy.
The young shortstop forms a dynamic duo in the infield with Arenado, both of whom enjoy playing at the launching pad that is Coors Field. Story's power numbers are impressive, and he'll now have two more years to boost his numbers before he hits the open market.
