Rockies Star Trevor Story to Undergo MRI on Thumb Thursday
By Sean Facey
In the midst of a win over the division-rival Diamondbacks, the Rockies may have lost one of their top players.
Rockies shortstop Trevor Story is set to receive an MRI on Thursday on his injured thumb that ultimately forced him out of Wednesday's game.
Initial X-rays on the thumb came back negative, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility of ligament damage.
Story has been a vital member of Colorado's potent offense this year, as they climb back into Wild Card contention. He's slashing .294/.360/.547 with 17 home runs and a league-leading 65 runs scored. He's also appeared in 72 of the Rockies' 73 games.
Losing him for an extended period of time would deal a massive blow to the Rockies, as they continue to fight for a Wild Card spot. His 2.9 fWAR is good for seventh in the NL, proving just how valuable he is to this team.
If he can dodge a stint on the injured list, then the Rockies will be in good shape.
For now, though, everyone will have to wait in anticipation of the results, and hope that nothing too serious is uncovered.
