Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott Tweets Tribute to Fallen 49ers Teammate Dwight Clark

June 2 is a solemn day for San Francisco 49ers fans. Two years ago, legendary wide receiver Dwight Clark passed away at the age of 61 following a one-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). His loss lingers still stings the fan base and his former teammates.
On Friday, Hall of Fame defensive back Ronnie Lott sent out a tribute tweet to t his teammate for the better part of seven years and his "brother."
Lott entered the 49ers locker room as a first-round pick in 1981, and Clark already had two seasons under his belt. That year was when the 49ers dynasty began.
San Francisco finished the regular season with a 13-3 record and clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC. They trounced the New York Giants in the Divisional Round, but faced their true test in the Dallas Cowboys in the Conference Championship Game. The 49ers had trailed the Cowboys 27-21 in the final seconds of the game, but Clark stepped up when it mattered most. The receiver caught a six-yard pass in the back of the end zone to send the 49ers to Super Bowl XVI in a play that would forever be known as "The Catch."
Clark won Super Bowl XVI and XIX with Lott, but ultimately retired at the end of the 1987 season.
While Clark is no longer with us, his memory will forever live on in the minds of Lott, other 49ers players, and fans around the globe.
