Ross Detwiler Reportedly Agrees to Minor League Deal With White Sox

It seems the Chicago White Sox may have disregarded last year's statistics entirely when deciding to proceed with their latest move.

The Sox are reportedly bringing back lefty Ross Detwiler, once a Nationals top draft pick, on a minor-league deal, despite a rather ghastly 2019.

In the interest of full context, Detwiler somehow allowed 20 home runs in just 69.2 innings last season, pitching to the tune of a 6.59 ERA. All of this seems rather improbable, even with the juiced ball in place, but clearly, Chicago saw something they liked.

The Sox are having a strong offseason on the offensive side of the ball, bringing back clubhouse leader Jose Abreu for three years and $50 million, as well as dipping their toe into the free agent pool ahead of anyone else to bring Yasmani Grandal to town.

Unfortunately, they've repeatedly struck out on pitching targets, in part leading to this reunion with the funky lefty.

There are more depressing memes in the universe, I'm sure, but none immediately spring to mind.
