On Wednesday night, new details about Roy Halladay's tragic death in a plane crash emerged, and they were extraordinarily depressing.
Halladay was dealing with chronic pain and depression, and reportedly was taking opioids at the time of his death. It could be argued that he was in no condition to be flying a plane, and he certainly shouldn't have been attempting stunts. Nonetheless, this speaks to the struggles of athletes after their playing days, when the thrill of competition is behind them for good.

Brandy Halladay, Roy's wife, commented on the leaked finding on Thursday, and hopes to shut the door on this entire discourse.

The Halladay family would rather keep Roy's struggles in the past, instead of bringing them back to light as an attempt to make some sense of his passing. Creating such a link is an insult to the family that loved their husband and father tremendously.
Brandy Halladay, the wife of the late Roy Halladay, issues statement: “Yesterday’s NTSB report on Roy’s accident was painful for our family, as it has caused us to relive the worst day of our lives. It has reinforced what I have previously stated, that no one is perfect. (more)

Overcoming the death of a loved one, especially in the immediate family, can take years in private life. I'd imagine it's even tougher when that person is such a public figure and well-respected athlete like Halladay was.
Despite our constant intrigue to know more -- and understand the tragic events that have had such an impact on us personally -- it's vital that we allow the Halladay family to grieve in peace.
