The Kansas City Royals lost a major figure in their franchise's history last week.
The team announced on Friday that David Glass, the former owner of the Royals who sold the organization this offseason due mainly to health concerns, died at the age of 85.

Glass, who acquired the franchise in April of 2000, was at the helm when the Royals won the World Series in 2015, giving Kansas City their first Commissioner's trophy since 1985 after they clinched back-to-back AL pennants.
Glass was facing health issues head-on when he made the final push to sell the team.
New owner John Sherman gave glowing praise of Glass in the team's statement on his passing, saying, "His passion for baseball and love for Kansas City was the driving force in bringing success on the field for this franchise."
I read this news with a heavy heart. You’ll hear much about his accomplishments, but I’ll remember his kindness and decency. In a world of big egos, he was as down to earth and genuine as they come. I’ll miss him. Kansas City will miss him. My thoughts are with his loved ones. https://t.co/WxLWWWMZMV

"Mr. Glass loved this game, this team and our city with all his heart," added Royals senior vice president of baseball operations Dayton Moore.
Glass helped revitalize the franchise and bring it back to relevance, and his presence in the baseball world will most certainly be missed.
