Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez's triumphant return to action in 2020 has already been capped at just 60 games long, and now his return date might be further delayed after he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Perez was confirmed to be one of the 31 players that tested positive for the COVID-19 virus in recent days. Luckily, Perez is not showing any symptoms.

According to the MLB's coronavirus protocols, Perez will not be allowed to return to action until he tests negative for the virus twice.

Perez missed the entire 2019 season after he underwent Tommy John surgery. Prior to that, Perez had made the All-Star Game in six consecutive seasons, winning a Gold Glove in all but one of those seasons.

If there is any silver lining to this story, Perez is reportedly in good spirits, even smiling on a team Zoom meeting.

Perez missed all of 2019, and his playing in 2020 might be severely limited if he doesn't recover from the virus soon. What looks like a rough 2020 season ahead for the Mike Matheny and the Royals just got even tougher.
