Royals Assistant Pedro Grifol Gets 2nd Interview for Giants Manager Job
By Chris Pyo
As the San Francisco Giants continue to search for a manager who will be able to fill Bruce Bochy's massive shoes, a new name has emerged as a possible candidate.
Kansas City Royals catching and quality control coach Pedro Grifol has been offered a second interview by the Giants, per insider Mark Feinsand.
As with almost every other managerial candidate, Grifol has been around the game for a while now. He played college baseball at Florida State University and was named an All-American for the Seminoles in 1991.
Afterwards, he was drafted in the sixth round of the 1991 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins and played eight years in the minor leagues for the Twins and the New York Mets.
He then proceeded to take a position with the Seattle Mariners as their director of minor league operations. Evidently, he's found enough success in the baseball industry to be considered for a managerial position at the highest level, one he failed to reach as a player.
Grifol is also an in-house candidate for the Royals' managerial gig succeeding Ned Yost.
Other candidates for the Giants' vacancy include former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler and Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada.
