As the NBA erupts in free agent drama, the San Antonio Spurs are staying painfully on-brand. Instead of making major splashes and disrupting the natural order of the NBA, they're content to stay exactly what they've been for the last five years: a pretty good team.

The latest evidence? They're bringing back veteran forward Rudy Gay on a two-year deal, reports Shams Charania.

Gay, at age 32, has settled in nicely to this latest phase of his career. The 15-year veteran is coming off career highs in field goal percentage (50.4) and 3-point shooting (40.2%), and is an ideal stretch power forward in Gregg Popovich's system, which swims against the current of the modern pace-and-space NBA in which 3-point barrages are the rule as opposed to the exception.

All told, Spurs gonna Spur. And while nobody should be picking them to make an NBA Finals run next season, they'll be just as respectable as they've always been. And compared to the drama we see elsewhere around the league -- sup, Knicks?!?! -- that doesn't sound too bad.
