Rudy Gobert's Ignorant Response to Coronavirus Didn't Age Well After NBA Postponed Thunder-Jazz Due to His Illness
By Michael Luciano
While the NBA, and the sports world as a whole, is paralyzed with fear over the coronavirus to the point where they are recommended games should be played without fans in attendance, Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert seemed to think this was all a laughing matter, as he touched every microphone and recorder in the Jazz media room to mock the spread of the disease.
Hours after Gobert was ruled questionable to play against the Oklahoma City Thunder with an illness, the game was postponed amid concerns that Gobert's illness was indeed the dreaded coronavirus.
It really is hard to distinguish what's worse; the fact Gobert touched all the mics and recorders in the room like a six-year-old or that he did so during one of the biggest viral pandemics in recent history.
This is beyond childish and immature. Gobert's attempt at comedy not only failed to get a single laugh, but it managed to cancel an NBA game and wasted the time of tens of thousands of people.
This nightmare is going to follow Gobert for a while. If there's anything even slightly positive to take out of this fiasco, it's that Gobert might have finally understood the gravity of this coronavirus scare.
