VIDEO: Andy Ruiz Jr. Weighs in at 283 Pounds Before Anthony Joshua Rematch and That's Nuts
By Michael Luciano
Andy Ruiz Jr.'s chubby 268-pound frame decimating one of the most talented, sculpted boxers in any weight class in Anthony Joshua was one of the most shocking upsets we've seen in that division in years. Ruiz decided to pack on some extra muscle before his rematch with Joshua in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, as he added around 15 pounds (!) compared to June's first fight.
Andy Ruiz Weigh-in
The champ comes in weighing 20 stone, three pounds -- or 283.7 pounds, to be exact. As recently as Friday, Ruiz's camp suggested that he'd be right back at the 268 pounds he carried six months ago.
That's clearly not the case! Let's see Joshua try to stagger Ruiz when he's fighting at this weight.
Anthony Joshua Weigh-in
Joshua weighed in at 248 pounds in his loss against Ruiz, and has decided to go in the complete opposite direction. He's officially shed 11 pounds to come in at 237 (16 stone, 13 pounds).
For someone who had difficulty standing up to the power of Ruiz, losing weight could come back to bite him if he can't make full use of his notable height and reach advantage.
How Much is a 'Stone' in Pounds?
Good question! Exactly 14.
All told, AJ shed some weight in an attempt to get faster and control the tempo of the fight, while it appears Ruiz added 15 pounds of muscle to a frame that already had little trouble withstanding Joshua's blows and dispatching of him with power punches. Saturday's fisticuffs will tell which strategy turned out to be more prudent.
