With the news of Mickey Callaway's firing only minutes old, rumors are already swirling about who his replacement could be.

The New York Mets reportedly have some big ambitions.

If you believe Andy Martino, rumor has it that general manager Brodie Van Wagenen has spent much of the year figuring out how to trade for Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch, who led the team to a World Championship in 2017, and guided them to the MLB's best record this year.

As he has been since his firing in 2017, Joe Girardi remains the target of frequent rumors as well, but this BVW trade conversation certainly tweaks the rumor mill in a new direction.

The Mets job is actually somewhat attractive right now. Despite missing the playoffs, they played very well down the stretch, and rebounded from an awful June to finish 86-76. Their year also ended on a high note, quite literally courtesy of Dom Smith.

In five years as the Astros' manager, Hinch has led the team to four playoff appearances, three consecutive AL West titles, two ALCS appearances, and the 2017 World Series Championship. He also served as the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2009-2010.
