Russell Wilson is Getting a Jaw-Dropping Signing Bonus From the Seahawks on Wednesday
By Brendan Balsamo
Back in April of 2019, the Seahawks extended quarterback Russell Wilson in a deal that would keep him in Seattle for another four seasons. The contract unloads a full $140 million on him.
Wilson is getting a lot of that money on Wednesday, as he's one of six NFLers with deferred signing bonuses that have come due. His payday eclipses the five others by an extreme amount, however. Wilson is owed $35 million on Wednesday from the $65 million signing bonus he was owed when he was originally extended in Seattle. Nice work if you can get it!
The second-highest bonus paid on Wednesday goes to Wilson's teammate, Bobby Wagner, who is getting $27 million less than the QB. Carolina's Shaq Thompson is also on the list, receiving $8 million of his own, while Carolina is paying two former Panthers, Gerald McCoy ($2 million) and Eric Reid ($1.5 million). The only other quarterback on the list is Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who gets $5 million.
Wilson deserves the money, as he was a near-MVP once again in 2019. He threw for 4,110 yards, a 66.1% completion percentage, and 31 touchdowns while rushing for 342 yards and three scores..
In 2019, Wilson proved he earned his bag, so Seahawks fans should be happy they're paying that sort of cash to retain a top-five quarterback in the league and keeping him as happy as can be.
