VIDEO: Ryan Newman Loses Control and Flips on Final Stretch at Daytona 500 in Fiery Wreck
By Michael Luciano
Denny Hamlin might have won the 62nd running of the Daytona 500, but it's Ryan Newman's wreck that ended up as the main story of the evening. Newman, who was in first place, was rounding one of the final turns when his bumper was hit. That sent his car sputtering out of control before inverting and sliding across the track in a complete wreck, sparks kicking up beside him.
Hamlin was the winner of the biggest single event in racing, but all eyes will be on Newman as his personal safety is the highest priority. We're hoping he was able to escape without any injuries.
Newman departed in an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital. His status has not been revealed of yet.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Newman and his family.
