The Saints Should Trade for Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky and Work on Him Being Drew Brees' Successor
By Michael Luciano
The Chicago Bears appear to be inching closer to moving away from Mitchell Trubisky at quarterback, as evidenced by their trade for former Jaguars and Eagles quarterback Nick Foles to give the former No. 2 overall pick some competition.
Inevitably, teams will be calling Bears GM Ryan Pace to trade for Trubisky following this bold, unexpected move for Foles.
If Trubisky does get traded, the New Orleans Saints make a lot of sense as far as potential landing spots go.
Trubisky has plenty of warts as a quarterback, but he excels at getting the ball out of his hands on short passes in rhythm. No offense in the league featured more short passes than New Orleans, as they had the lowest ADOT total last season.
Under Sean Payton's watch, Drew Brees went from San Diego flameout to Super Bowl champion, while Teddy Bridgewater went from one foot out of the door to playing so well he earned a $60 million deal from the Carolina Panthers. If anyone can get Trubisky turned around, it's him.
It might be time for Trubisky to find a new line of work if Payton can't at least make him a respectable backup quarterback in this league for a long time. For all his valleys, the peaks are still there, and New Orleans would be making a smart move by having him back up and potentially succeed Brees after this season.
