Saints DE Carl Granderson Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail After Plea Agreement Gets Rejected
By Charles Nason
Former Wyoming football player and recent New Orleans Saints signee Carl Granderson has officially been sentenced to six months in jail. His plea agreement was rejected by the Albany County District Court in Laramie, Wyoming earlier Thursday morning.
Granderson was facing one count of sexual battery and one count of unlawful contact, to which he pleaded no contest. He was originally facing charges for third-degree assault and sexual battery for an incident that took place in February.
After going undrafted, Granderson was pursued and signed by the Saints for $85,000. Instead of attending training camp with the Saints later this month, he'll immediately begin his six-month sentence at the Albany County Detention Center.
New Orleans was confident in signing Granderson despite knowing that he had an ongoing sexual assault case.
The former Wyoming Cowboy was also given a one-year jail sentence for the sexual battery charge from district court judge Tori Kricken. That sentence will be suspended with one year of supervised probation once he completes his six months.
The Saints have not yet released a statement about Granderson since the news of his jail sentence surfaced.
