Saints Adding Former Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson in Free Agency Would Make Their Offense Unstoppable
By Brady Williams
Signs point to the Kansas City Chiefs letting go of wide receiver Demarcus Robinson considering the two haven't struck a deal yet at this point in the offseason. With so many teams still in the market for a wide receiver, it's expected he'll be gone in the near future. It's actually surprising nobody else picked him up yet.
As a young, speedy deep threat, he can fit in on several different rosters, but perhaps the best fit for him lies with the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints have one of the best receivers in the league in Michael Thomas. They've just signed Emmanuel Sanders, who averaged 13.94 yards per catch in 2019. With the number one and two guys settled, adding a burner like Robinson would give Drew Brees a set of weapons that would be nearly unmatched in the NFL.
Brees is the kind of quarterback who elevates his wide receivers. He's one of the best in the league when it comes to spreading the ball around, and giving him a third option like Robinson to stretch the field would make their passing game extremely hard to defend.
When you factor in the presence of Alvin Kamara, who is one of the best dual-threat running backs in the game, the Saints could very well rip through the NFC and get back to the Super Bowl after some heartbreaking playoff appearances the last few years.
In 2019, Robinson logged 449 yards and four touchdowns. He did that as a number four receiver with the Chiefs. Trading one great quarterback in Patrick Mahomes for another star like Brees would be a recipe for success for him and the Saints, and New Orleans should use some of their $9 million in cap space to make this happen.
