VIDEO: Saints Fans Throw Trash at Refs After Losing Wild Card Game to Vikings
By Mark Powell
Saints fans were understandably upset over a controversial non-call cost them a playoff win for the second straight season. Yet, the fan conspiracy theories around this so-called OPI from Kyle Rudolph on the game's final score are tired, and Saints fans have proven yet again that they struggle to handle defeat (albeit very, very tough losses). The anger around Nickell Robey-Coleman's pass interference non-call was understandable. Hurling trash at officials, however, is crossing the line.
I'm not one to chastise. We all get too into the end result of sporting events far too often, but fans have to understand where the line is. Throwing garbage at the officiating crew after a controversial call is not the correct way to vent frustration. Surely even these Saints fans understand their mistake by now.
The string of painful losses for New Orleans over the past decade have been tough to watch, despite a lone Super Bowl from Sean Payton and Co.
This childish behavior, however, is inexcusable.
