Saints Get Best Update Possible on Drew Brees Following Thumb Surgery
By Thomas Carannante
It's now all up to Sean Payton to keep the New Orleans Saints afloat over the next six weeks.
Star quarterback Drew Brees underwent successful thumb surgery on Wednesday to repair torn ligaments and his timetable to return in six weeks is reportedly "within reach."
This was expected to be the best-case scenario, so Saints fans have to be excited Brees will likely be back in action for the entire second half.
The only problem? Teddy Bridgewater looked terrible against the Los Angeles Rams, a game that ended up being a blowout, and the Saints have to take on the Seahawks, Cowboys, Bears and Jaguars in Brees' absence. One can only hope they can beat the Buccaneers and Cardinals in the other two games Brees will miss.
Payton is keeping the opposition on their toes, however, by refusing to name a starting QB for Sunday at Seattle. He says the team is going to approach the game with both Bridgewater and Taysom Hill as viable options under center, which should change the dynamic of the offense from a defensive gameplanning standpoint.
A matchup in Seattle doesn't bode well for a weak road team like the Saints, but it'll at the very least give them a blueprint for what they'll need to do for the next month and a half while they await the return of their veteran leader.
