The Saints Week 15 preparations took a turn for the worse on Tuesday afternoon.

New Orleans suffered a heartbreaking loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, in a game which featured far too much scoring for Sean Payton's liking. Defensive stops will be even harder to come by moving forward, with stud defensive end Marcus Davenport out for the season.

Davenport's season will come to an end early, which is a significant loss for New Orleans' defensive line which had been a strength this season thanks to the former first-round pick and the always-electric Cam Jordan.

Suddenly, the Saints are lacking up the middle, meaning New Orleans' depth at the position will be tested immediately.

At just 23 years of age, Davenport had forced three fumbles this season and registered six sacks. His durability was never questioned, as Davenport started all but 13 snaps for the Saints entering the 49ers' contest.

New Orleans was higher on Davenport than most entering the 2018 NFL Draft, and their package of two first-round picks and a fourth rounder to move up and acquire him shows just that. So far, they've been proven right, despite this minor setback.
