Saints Are One Move Away From Winning NFL Offseason
By Michael Luciano
The Tennessee Titans' notable improvement in the secondary last season was due in large part to Logan Ryan's breakout campaign, as the former New England Patriots corner recorded 113 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and four interceptions.
Ryan's tenure in Tennessee, however, has ended after three straight seasons, meaning a potential stud at corner could be had for a discounted price.
The New Orleans Saints should be all over Ryan at the moment. Marshon Lattimore might be a star in Dennis Allen's defense, but the rest of the secondary as a whole remains toothless.
Outside of Lattimore, the Saints have had to rely on the famously unreliable Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple, who's still a free agent, on the outside. Fourth-round rookie stud Chauncey Gardner-Johnson can handle the nickel, but he's better at safety. Signing Ryan allows Gardner-Johnson to move back to his better position, while giving the Saints a legit No. 2 corner.
No one is better at fiddling with the salary cap to sign quality players than Saints GM Mickey Loomis. He'll need to work his magic once again to fit a player of Ryan's caliber onto this stacked roster, a move that could help them win the NFC South.
