Saints Release Statement in Response to Alleged Connection to New Orleans Archdiocese PR Damage Control
By Sean Facey
On Friday, it was revealed the New Orleans Saints were the subjects of a suit that alleged team executives sent emails trying to help the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans deal with the fallout from sexual abuse committed by clergy members.
And after a few hours, the team has released a statement on the matter.
"The advice was simple and never wavering," read the statement. "Be direct, open and fully transparent, while making sure that all law enforcement agencies were alerted."
It's in direct conflict with the allegations against them that state the team tried to help the Church keep its crimes under wraps.
The Saints also said they "remain steadfast in support of the victims who have suffered and pray for their continued healing."
Furthermore, the statement stressed the team only asked that the emails and documents in question be kept secret until they are "admitted into evidence at a public trial or hearing."
If one thing's for certain, it's that there's still plenty of information to be uncovered regarding this situation. The Saints, however, were smart to respond as quickly as they possibly could after the news was made public.
