Saints Release WR Cam Meredith After Short Stint in New Orleans
By Karl Rasmussen
The Cam Meredith project in New Orleans never quite panned out, as the wide receiver spent more time on the sidelines nursing injuries than he did on the gridiron.
After joining the Saints last season, Meredith suited up in six games, recording just nine receptions for 114 yards and a score. He underwent offseason surgery on his knee, and it seems as if the Saints lost confidence in his ability to be impactful in the upcoming season.
The 26-year-old has battled injuries throughout his entire, albeit brief, career in the league. He had a standout season in 2016 with the Bears, during which he reeled in 66 receptions, 888 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Meredith posted a cryptic picture on Instagram, using the caption "#Gr8fu1" which was apparently in response to his release.
If Meredith can stay healthy and shake off his injury history, he could still be a valuable asset in the league. After missing the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL, the former Illinois State standout hasn't been able to show us his full potential in quite a while.
While he resembles a risk for teams on the open market, a wide receiver-needy squad could take a gamble and hope that he can string together a healthy campaign.
