Saints Reportedly Sign Former Seahawks DB DeShawn Shead
By Andy Loughmiller
The New Orleans Saints have added another veteran defensive back to their roster late in the season.
According to Ian Rapoport, DeShawn Shead has signed with New Orleans. He has not played a single regular season snap in 2019 after being released by the Seahawks in August. But, he knows what it takes to deliver in crunch time.
Shead won a Super Bowl with Seattle during his first stint with the team that spanned from 2012 to 2017. He was also a member of the Lions secondary in 2018.
With Eli Apple and Vonn Bell dealing with injuries, New Orleans claimed Janoris Jenkins off of waivers after he was released by the Giants. The addition of Shead affords them with another experienced DB, as well as some extra depth in the back end of their defense should they suffer further losses.
The Saints were forced to move some players around in their secondary after some of their key guys went down on Sunday. P.J. Williams, who typically operates as a nickel corner, was switched to safety in the middle of their Week 16 matchup with the Titans.
Shead got some looks at safety during the preseason with Seattle, so his versatility should be an asset to New Orleans as they prep for a deep run in the NFL playoffs.
