Saints DB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson Gets Fined for Hit on Mitchell Trubisky and Goes Nuts on Twitter
By Chris Russo
C.J. Gardner-Johnson seems to be less focused on this Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals than he is on the NFL's methods for dishing out discipline.
The New Orleans Saints defensive back says the NFL fined him for a hit on Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky Sunday, and he is seething with anger on Twitter as a result.
Gardner-Johnson admitted to being fined $21,000 for a hit on Trubisky in the Saints' 36-25 victory in Chicago last week, then called out the NFL.
Gardner-Johnson later tweeted pictures of the hit in question.
Sheesh, will this be enough to earn the Florida Gators rookie a separate fine?
Gardner-Johnson did not make contact with Trubisky's head or neck area, and he does not appear to lift the QB off the ground or land on him with the weight of his body. The fine, however, is surely due to the fact that he appears to have led with the crown of his helmet. While not the most dangerous hit possible, it's still against the rules.
As for Gardner-Johnson's social media behavior this morning, it is not the only harsh thing he has done last week-- though it might be a little more playful and less malicious, the safety and the rest of the Saints defense mocked Chicago running back Tarik Cohen's height on Sunday.
Gardner-Johnson will try to redeem himself against Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals this weekend.
